Purim Bat Mitzvah, part 2

More photos of the Orthodox Bat Mitzvah I photographed on Purim in Jerusalem. Here is what the Bat Mitzvah girl's mother had to say about me after she saw the photos:

"Mirah is quite talented with a good eye and a hard worker as well. She photographed our daughter's Bat Mitzvah, did portraits before and worked through the Megilla reading until the end of the party, literally non-stop. I found her to be very personable and professional. She is also open to feed-back and accommodates herself to the family's needs. The photos she has sent us so far are wonderful. Other family members and a good friend who is a photographer who has viewed them, all agreed that they were high quality and enjoyed them. I think you can get a pretty clear impression of my opinion of Mirah through these comments."

City of Gold Series

Just this once, I'm going to bend what I consider to be a very important rule that artists should never try to tell people what their art is about. So here is what this series is about:

Also shot in the old Jerusalem train station with Beth, this series explores the relationship of femininity with religion and cultural identity. By shooting this series in a rundown building with the golden late afternoon light, I was also seeking to contrast the two major stereotypes of Jerusalem - City of Gold and war zone - neither of which is really accurate and neither of which can be understood without the other.
